Local & GMT

The script* reads the system time settings of your computer, so it should work correctly regardless of your time zone. Of course, if your computer system time is incorrect, the times displayed below will also be incorrect. There are many free utilities that can easily and quickly synchronize your computer system clock to online atomic clocks. We use WebTime, available as freeware at: http://www.gregorybraun.com/WebTime.html

GMT is sometimes confused with Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). For most purposes, the two times are the same. Technically, there is a difference. UTC is based on atomic clocks, which are very constant. GMT is based on the Earth's rotation, which is not constant. To keep GMT and UTC in synch, leap seconds are sometimes added to, or subtracted from, a year. It depends on whether Earth is "spinning up" or "spinning down." In the short term, either can happen.
